I thought about this painting of mine today.

It’s of the La Boca area in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

While I was initially attracted to the composition of the light bulbs against the urban background, it was the meaning to me that was more compelling.

Later in the day I found a note from an event in 2013 where I was challenged about what was my global vision?

Huh?

That question has always stumped me. I just wanted to bring more love and light into the world. Wasn’t that enough?

And then I realized that this painting, Lights of La Boca I, is my global vision in a way I hadn’t expected.

Yes, it is realistic in execution but it has deep symbolism to me.

The urban background represents the everyday and all the rich complexities about it. The single thick wire with all the light bulbs on it represents that we are all connected as One. And the light bulbs are each of us as individuals.

Notice that the light bulbs are not all the same color but are many different colors. It is the diversity of color that makes the art beautiful, not the sameness.

And that was always my intention. To celebrate the beauty of diversity.

The difference with the art, and us as individuals, is that it is really up to us whether we choose to shine our unique light into the world to illuminate it, or do we choose to keep it turned off and contribute to the darkness.

I know my choice.

That’s my global vision that I want to contribute to and work towards as a member of humanity. To shine my light. I know it is vastly different than the reality of the world today, but this art helps remind me that we are in this together and that individuals shining their unique light, in whatever the color, is always welcomed and much needed.

Peace and love,
Elaine

BTW, before I leave Atlanta I will be having an art sale, so if you are interested in a print of this painting, come to the art sale. Look for more details coming in September! Didn’t know I was also an fine artist, too? Visit elainecallahan.com to learn more.
