LIFE PURPOSE: Family and Community, “The Mom/The Dad”
LIFE LESSON: Out of Sync with Family and Community

We use our thumbs to oppose our world in order to manifest. Thumbs represent our ability to bring things into existence.

On the master path, the left thumb is all about family, community, and is “the mom/the dad”. The master path feels good and on purpose.

Someone with a left thumb purpose is all about family and community. They are happiest when they are creating connection as part of a healthy family or community, whether that means family of origin, team, tribe, coworkers or community they participate in and/or help create.

The student path doesn’t feel good, it feels yucky, and you are in your life lesson. On the student path, it is about being out of sync with the family. There could be negativity, gossip, estrangement, loneliness, and feeling like the “black sheep” of the family.

Whether you have the right thumb as a life purpose, or life lesson, below are some simple tips to help you be on the master path.

Create a community of your choosing through positive interaction
A family or community may be the one you were born into, or it may be entirely different. It’s about participating in a group that is healthy and supportive. For some folks that come from highly dysfunctional families they may have left their family to create a new “family” that loves them, and accepts and supports them for who they truly are. If leaving an abusive family situation is difficult, you may need outside support.

Take good care of yourself while being part of a group
Do you take care of everyone else but yourself? Doing too much for others while neglecting your own needs can create burnout, resentment, health issues, and so much more. Setting clear boundaries, with love, helps everyone understand what you are willing and able to do to contribute to the group. And, “no” is a complete sentence. By having clear boundaries, you can stop being the family doormat.

Letting Go to Let New in Again

If there was a theme for me for 2017, it would be letting go to let new in again. Can you relate? After 26 years of living in Atlanta, GA, I recently moved to Richmond, VA, to begin a new season in my life. I have been here a month and a half, and while...

I love design. I am fascinated by it. With my background in corporate design and art, I’ve had the chance to really experience what good design does for a specific purpose. In marketing, the purpose of design is to communicate information, and to do it in a compelling...
